Tokyo Loli Ban Will Include Evangelion
It’s a proposal, not law… as of now, hopefully ever.
Basically, it would keep the slightest depictions of minors in sexual situations from those under 18.
Sankaku Complex:
The authors of the Tokyo loli ban have been busily trying to quell a storm of criticism by “clarifying” their proposal in a way which still allows them to get as much of it through as possible, and in the process appear to have slipped up and claimed that Evangelion’s raunchier scenes would not be banned, despite having just explained in the same document that similar scenes would be banned as harmful to minors in all but “adult” publications.
….
Evangelion in fact includes scenes of masturbation and similar, meaning it would likely fall squarely within the remit of the ban – Tokyo would thus legally require Evangelion DVDs and manga to be sat in the adult section along with “hardcore” pornography, likely a death knell for sales and sure to have a chilling effect on any future titles intended to reach a wider audience.
Of course, it makes no sense to associate this scene with hardcore porn. It’s a crucial look at Shinji’s broken pyche. His emotions are so disturbed that he loses sight of the conventional boundaries he once adhered to. The accidental reveal of Auska’s breasts pushes him to do something he would not have done in his normal state: masturbate to a comatose Asuka. Confused, Shinji laments, “I’m so fucked up.”

Rebuilding Evangelion - New Animated Movies

If you haven’t seen Neon Genesis Evangelion you don’t know what good anime is. The movie The End of Evangelion is at the top of my favorite movies of all time, including live-action(real actors). Maybe most if not all could care less for my interests and me saying good things about NGE won’t compel you to go and watch all 26 episodes plus the 2 movies. This is not going to stop me from delivering the news.
It’s good news for people like you who haven’t seen NGE. See, it was just announced that GAINAX will be making 4 new animated films of the series. The project is entitled Rebuild of Evangelion. The first three movies will be a retelling of the TV series, similar to Death & Rebirth except it’ll be spread out between 3 films instead of 1. The final one will be a completely new conclusion to the series. Being a huge EVA, I’m not entirely sure how I feel about these new movies.
Good news is that Anno Hideaki(creator/writer/director of original series) will be writing the first film and be general director for the whole project. However Kazuya Tsurumaki will be in the director chair for all the films. The first is to be released in the summer of 2007, second January 2008, third+fourth summer 2008.
You could wait until then to experience the magic and remember there’s even a live-action version in the works said to be released around 2010, but I would highly recommend seeing the original series first. If you’re low on cash you can rent them. I know the local Hollywood Video has the series. I’ll let you borrow mine!
Anyway it is good news that an animated Evangelion project is on the way and It’ll be interesting watching another alternate conclusion to the series. (It’ll be the third alternate ending. Episode 26 was original ending. The End of Evangelion movie was another, better ending IMO although the original was still majorly excellent)
I really really hope it turns out great.

Live Action Anime

Anime is meant to be animated and most will not transfer well to live action. It’s that simple. When I first heard that a live action version of Neon Genesis Evangelion was in pre-production I was screaming down the streets and yelling through peoples windows. A live action movie would just ruin the whole essence of what Evangelion is. When I found out that it was going to be westernized, including name changes, I nearly shoved this keyboard down my throat.
That was like 2 years ago. I’m cool now. Plus production on NGE live action is so slow I wonder if it’ll ever be made.
Back to the now.
With the Ishimori CBM merger there’s a crap load of potential for anime titles to be adapted into live action. I really don’t give a hoot about some crappy anime being made into a live action film. What I do care about is when good anime is made into a live action movie with western production companies and western changes to appeal to the American audiences. It totally ruins the point and meaning of the original. They are money makers and you know how I hate movies that are just made for the buck.
There’s now talk about a Lupin the 3rd movie. Americanized live action Lupin the 3rd. I don’t know.
It’s probably going to happen, but I’ll hate the day when shitty movies based on great anime rule the cinema.
What’s you’re feeling on anime being translated into live action?
I’d really love to know.
Actually I don’t care too much. I just thought it’d be nice to end this post with a question, but please comment.
